The Phoencian Golf Course- Scottsdale, AZ
When the Phoenician Golf Course opened in 1981, it featured 27 holes designed by Jack Snyder. It probably also featured a lot less construction- at least for a few years, until the resort opened. Today, it seems like the course is in danger of being devoured by development- ironically in some places by golf villas.
In 2018, following a resort expansion/refresh, Phil Smith redesigned the course into an 18 hole track. While the course is kept in immaculate condition, and definately has scenic holes on the back 9, its hard to overlook all the construction. It definately deminishes the course’s charm, at least in my eyes.
That’s not to say it isn’t a great course- it’s a solid choice if you are staying in the area, or at the resort. It’s a good compromise for those that prefer desert golf, but don’t want to drive to find it.
