I have stayed at Nemacolin in the past, and was not a fan. Our room in the Annex was mediocre at best, it was expensive, and there were a lot of loud children. I had no intention of returning, but then they opened Shepard's Rock in 2017, and I was forced to reconsider.

Thistledown at Seger House has been on quite a crazy ride over the past century. Considering its past incarnations, it's a absolute miracle it emerged with so many architectural elements intact. These elements are what elevate the property, and ultimately save it from mediocrity.

Gobbler’s Knob- Punxsutawney, PA
Proximity brought me to the temporary burrow of the legendary Punxsutawney Phil, a Pennsylvania groundhog that can apparently forecast the weather. Usually, Phil lives in a glass enclosure at the town library; however, on February 2nd, amid much fanfare, he is carted off to Gobbler's Knob, to predict the arrival of spring.
