Middle Head Trail- Cape Bretton NP
Just past Keltic Lodge's historic cottages, a short 2 mile trail traverses the spectacularly scenic Middle Head Peninsula. Running the length of the rocky promontory, the trail ends at a peaceful clifftop clearing with views of Cape Smokey, Ingonish Island and the vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean.

Highland Links- Ingonish Beach, NS
Conceived by the Canadian National Park Service in the throes of the Great Depression, Stanley Thompson's 1939 classic links course is still magnificent. Considered an homage to the sport's Scottish roots, the course is perennially listed as one of the Top 10 tracts in Canada.

Halifax, Nova Scotia
Halifax always loomed large in my mind. It was the place that my grandmother emigrated from, and played a central role in her stories, including the Great Explosion of 1917 and the sinking of the Titanic in 1912. Through her vivid descriptions, it felt like a place I knew long before I actually visited.

Duck, NC
For years I heard tell of a quaint, quiet town on North Carolina's Outer Banks, unspoiled by development. Long before the eponymous donuts hit the scene, Duck was known as the antithesis of many East Coast beach towns, and their debauchery. A place to enjoy nature rather than shots on Spring Break.
