Marriott Hacienda Belen- San Jose, Costa Rica
While I usually avoid chain hotels, Marriott's Hacienda Belen is located very close to San Jose's Juan Santamaría International airport, making it an incredibly convenient place to stay before or after a flight. They even provide an airport shuttle, making it an ideal place to start or end a Costa Rica vacation.

Despite my fondness for historic hotels, Omni Homestead was a one and done for me. Although I loved its history (and architecture), it was too impersonal and family friendly. However, I have lots of love for their classic William Flynn designed golf course, one of the most beautiful mountain courses in the United States.

Fort Lewis Lodge & Farm- Millboro, VA
Fort Lewis Lodge & Farm is absolutely fabulous if you enjoy the great outdoors. Its isolated location and 3300 acres offer an excellent retreat from the outside world. At Fort Lewis, it is possible to hike and swim all day, then spend the evening relaxing in front of a fire, or gazing at the night sky, no driving required.
