National Gallery of Canada- Ottawa, ON
Although a fan of landscape paintings, I had never heard of the Group of Seven or Tom Thomson before moving to Canada. However, after a visit to the McMicheal Canadian Art Collection, I was hooked. While the Art Gallery of Ontario holds an impressive collection of their work, some of the Group's most famous works are displayed in the National Gallery of Canada- the perfect excuse for a trip to Ottawa.

Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica, Ottawa, ON
Every city has at least one beautiful old church that should be on your short list. They're often the best examples of architecture and craftsmanship around, and reflect the design ideals of the era in which they were constructed- you wouldn't want to dissapoint God, after all.

Fairmont Château Laurier- Ottawa, ON
I absolutely love train travel, and am all about the idea of a string of grand hotels along railroad routes. While I'm about a century too late to take a Canadian Pacific or Grand Trunk Railway tour (although tourist segments do still exist), many of their stunning Châteauesque hotels still stand, including Ottawa's Fairmont Château Laurier.

Old Third Vineyard- Hillier, ON
While there are many options for wineries in Prince Edward County, Old Third should be on your short list. Not only do they have a fabulous Pinot Noir and a tasting room housed in a restored century old barn, they have pasta. Really, really good pasta.
