Ask any serious golfer about the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, and they have either played these courses, or plan to in the future. Really. Building a championship golf circuit around a state is an interesting idea for sure, but in Alabama? It seems almost incongruent; better suited to perhaps Arizona or Florida. You know, traditional golf states. States that already attract tourists. But therein lies the genius. Alabama State Capitol- Montgomery, AL
I have a lot of love for state capitol buildings. They typically are grand old structures, usually domed, steeped in history. Alabama’s capitol building is all of these things, and more. It is one stunning Greek Revival that has witnessed more than its share of historic moments, and emerged looking just as lovely as the day she was built.

Prattville, Alabama
At first glance, Prattville, Alabama seems geographically confused. It has all the hallmarks of a New England mill town, but it is located in the Deep South. One look at the town’s namesake however explains away the seeming anomaly; Daniel Pratt was a New Hampshirite (which is a real word), and the resemblance was by design.

Mobile, AL
Some cities you set out to visit, and some you just end up stumbling upon. I never knew I wanted to visit Mobile, Alabama. I actually had never given the city any thought at all. That was just ignorance on my behalf, because it is quite a charmer. It has everything you could want in a Southern city: leafy oaks, shaded squares, and beautiful architecture.
