Salzburg, Austria
Salzburg may just be the most beautiful city in all the land. It certainly looks like something out of a fairy tale, complete with a castle perched on high. It is easy to explore on foot, and has something for everyone. Beautiful scenery, glorious gardens, amazing architecture, and charming cafes…not to mention the music. It is, in short, magical. Settlement of the area can be traced back to Celts in the 5th Century BC; today’s city however dates to a later Roman occupation, which was awarded township status around 45 AD. Palm Springs Aerial Tram- Palm Springs, CA
Palm Springs is just about perfect. Not only does it have wonderfully mild winters, too many golf courses to count, and more retro architecture than anyone has a right to, it has an aerial tram. Aerial trams rate right up there with funiculars for me, and Palm Springs certainly boasts one of the best.

Jackson Hole, WY
Wyoming is a wonderland. So much to do, so much to see, so much open space. The town of Jackson retains a rustic Old West vibe, while Jackson Hole’s Teton Village is its more sophisticated sibling of sorts. While the area is known for its skiing, late summer is a magnificent time to visit and explore the mountain sans snow, or at least significantly less of it. Mere miles from Grand Teton National Park, your outdoor adventures are only limited by your ability. Which you absolutely should be honest with yourself about; there are some serious hikes out there, but also alternatives for the less athletic.

Breckenridge, CO
For those seeking a winter wonderland steeped in history, with endless vistas and countless outdoor activities, look no further than Breckenridge, Colorado. From the mining town’s Main Street, to the neighborhood Victorians, Breckenridge has one of the largest historic districts in Colorado. Looming over the town stands the TenMile Range of the Rockies, with several peaks that will satisfy any skier or snowboarder. Connecting the two areas is the Breckenridge Gondola, making travel between town and mountain a scenic adventure in itself.
