Muskoka Bay Resort- Gravenhurst, ON
Muskoka Bay Resort feels less like a resort, and more like a time share situation. Each unit is individually owned, so despite charging luxury resort rates, it’s possible to get a low rent experience, complete with mismatched furniture and limited amenities.
To be fair, from the outside, the resort’s architecture is outstanding. The club house is majestically perched on a bluff, and the hotel looks sleek, and Scandinavian. On the website, the lofts appear well designed, and inviting. Things are often not as they appear.
First, although the natural beauty of the area is unquestionable, the orientation of the buildings provides no privacy. Our unit, one of the only two lofts available as rentals, was in a parking lot. Views were of neighboring townhouses. The furniture in the unit was threadbare, and of low quality.
Towels and toiletries were also basic, with a completely random selection of kitchen supplies- which did not include a cork screw, the only thing we needed.
Although beautiful, service at the clubhouse was slow and awkward, with mediocre (yet expensive) food. Except for the golf, the whole Muskoka Bay Resort experience was disappointing. They can’t all be winners I suppose.
