McMichael Canadian Art Collection- Kleinburg, ON

Much like the Hudson River School before them, the Group of Seven painted what they loved. In their case, it was the Canadian Shield, in all its glory. McMichael Gallery not only has a magnificent collection of their work, it is also the final resting place of several of the members.

The gallery’s grounds are also home to Thom Thomson’s studio (moved from its original Rosedale ravine location), who technically predated the Group of 7, but definitely inspired them. The collection also includes historic and contemporary First Nations works, including the powerful Indian Residential School, Leaving the Shallow Graves and Going Home, by Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun.
