La Cantera Resort Course- San Antonio, TX
Former home of the Valero Open, the Resort Course at La Contera is slightly overshadowed by the Palmer Course these days. Or maybe that is just my opinion, because I really loved the Palmer Course. The Resort course certainly has its fans, and there is no denying it is the easier of the two courses. Sometimes you want that. There is also no denying that it has one of the most visual interesting holes out there. If you are looking for an elevated tee box that looks down upon a roller coaster, then look no further; hole 7 of this Morrish/Weiskoff design delivers stunning views of a 1934 limestone quarry that later became the site of Six Flags Fiesta Texas.
The rest of the course is very similar to the Palmer course, with a bit less elevation change. It shares the same beautiful scenery and excellent conditions, with wide forgiving fairways. It is without a doubt an excellent course, which you should play. It works well as a warmup for the Palmer course, which you will certainly need.
