The Inn at Millrace Pond is a fabulous collection of historic buildings, spanning several centuries and architectural styles. Rustic and quaint, with a restaurant and cozy tavern, the inn makes for a relaxing stop while on the road, or a quiet weekend away.
The main building, which houses several guest rooms, as well as the restaurant and tavern was constructed by the Moravians as a flour mill in 1769. A lovely limestone structure, it retains traces of the past, including the millrace, stone walls, brick floors and broad wood beams. The colonial tavern, which is truly a step back in time, is absolutely not to be missed.
Other onsite buildings include a stunning stone cottage, a cabin overlooking the creek, and two colonial wood frame houses. Booking at the last minute, I did not end up with a room in the mill itself, which I would have preferred. That said, my room was a charming second floor space in one of the compound’s houses, tucked up under the eaves. All around, it is is a property that will please those who support historic preservation and reuse projects.
