Located in rural Texas is a waterfall befitting of an exotic South Pacific Island. Lush vegetation? Cascading water? Emerald Pool? Yes, Yes, and Yes.
Hamilton Creek tumbles 50 feet over limestone outcroppings to create this geologic wonder. The stunning fern covered overhang and grotto underneath were formed when the dome of an underground river collapsed.
The rest of the preserve isn’t too shabby either. The pool is a short hike from the parking area, along a beautiful Cypress lined creek. While winding through the woods, the crystal clear water cascades over roots, giving an ethereal feel to the surrounding area.
Until fairly recently, this quiet oasis was somewhat of a local spot, albeit a popular one. Of course when a place is this beautiful, the secret is going to get out. And it has…very Pinteresting indeed. Go off season, or late in the day, and you should miss the bulk of the crowds. You must also have reservations during the summer, as obscene as that sounds. Nevertheless, it is a place not to be missed.
