Charming Cities and Towns

Halifax, Nova Scotia

Halifax always loomed large in my mind. It was the place that my grandmother emigrated from, and the home of countless relatives, who to me, existed only in my imagination. It played a central role in her stories, including the Great Explosion of 1917 and the sinking of the Titanic in 1912. Through her vivid descriptions, it felt like a place I knew long before I actually visited.

Although the city has changed much since my grandmother’s day, many local landmarks remain. Its relatively small size, revitalized waterfront, fascinating history and exceptional dining scene make Halifax the perfect summer destination. I can only imagine its a bit too brisk in the winter, at least for me, who finds anything under 50F unbearable.
