Falling Rock @ Nemacolin- Farmington, PA

I have stayed at Nemacolin in the past, and was not a fan. Our room in the Annex was mediocre at best, it was expensive, and there were a lot of loud children. I had no intention of returning, but then they opened Shepard’s Rock in 2017, and I was forced to reconsider. I am certainly glad I did. Staying at the design centric Falling Rock was a game changer.

Lobby

Opened in 2004, Falling Rock was heavily influenced by the work of Frank Lloyd Wright. Falling Water, one of Wright’s most famous houses, is only a short drive away after all. Use of organic materials, geometric patterns, and horizontal lines are all trademarks of the architect found throughout the building.

With only 42 rooms, it is an intimate experience, set within the larger Nemacolin resort. The interior is cool and somewhat dark, a welcome reprieve on a hot summer day. The rooms themselves are loaded with small luxuries, and come with a dedicated butler, who will even run a bath for you if requested- there is a bathing menu for those that need suggestions.

Infinity Pool

Although the rooms come with an in-room bar, and delightful treats like macaroons, my favorite property feature is the infinity pool. It is probably one of my favorite pools of all time. It is really unbelievably beautiful, with views for days.

Limited to just the guests at Falling Rock, usually golfers, it was not crowded at all during our visit, despite being a very hot weekend day. There were no children, as most family activities are located around the main resort buildings- which also have their own pools. So, chances are you can enjoy your Pina Colada in peace.

Pool and Golf Course

Falling Rock also offers easy access to both of the resort’s Pete Dye golf courses, and arguably the best views at the resort. If you do want to venture out to the main resort, there is a shuttle. However, for a short golf stay, Falling Rock is completely self contained.

It was a completely different experience from my last visit, and has left a completely different impression. I will dream of that pool until I return to play those beautiful Pete Dye courses again.
