For years I heard tell of a quaint, quiet town on North Carolina’s Outer Banks, unspoiled by development. Long before the eponymous donuts hit the scene, Duck was known as the antithesis of many East Coast beach towns, and their debauchery. A place to enjoy nature rather than shots on Spring Break.
While it may not be as quiet these days, and the area has certainly grown, it still largely maintains its small town atmosphere. No high rises or day clubs here. While there is a boardwalk, it’s a far cry from those at Virginia Beach, or Ocean City.
What it does have are miles of sandy beaches to explore, as well as the wetlands and wildlife refuges on Currituck Sound. And, of course donuts.
