Paradise Springs Winery- Clifton, VA
Clifton, Virginia is an impossibly quaint blip of a town, consisting of a handful of historic buildings. In the early years, the area was known for its mineral springs and railroad depot. Over a century later, it became known for Trummers, a fantastic destination restaurant with a huge wine cellar. Since 2010, it has also been known for Paradise Springs, the first winery in Fairfax County.

Cana Vineyards- Middleburg, VA
Cana Vineyards sits on an absolutely stunning piece of land. With views of rolling farmland and distant mountains, it's certainly scenic. While their wines were fine, I was most impressed by the magnificent stone fireplace that anchors their outdoor pavilion. In the spring or fall, few places can match those seats in front of the fire.

RdV Vineyards- Delaplane, VA
RdV Vineyards is a bit different than many Northern Virginia wineries. It is an intimate experience, which requires reservations, and their tastings feature not just their own wine, but pours from France and Napa.

Greenhill Winery & Vineyards- Middleburg, VA
There are a LOT of wineries in Northern Virginia these days. It seems if you offer city dwellers a place to bring their dogs, they will come, regardless of the product. Indeed, there are many lovely tasting rooms with lackluster wines out there, but Greenhill is not one of them.

Bluemont Vineyard- Bluemont, VA
Go to Bluemont for the views and the flatbread. Seriously, the Viognier was fine, but the location is outstanding.
