Charming Cities and Towns

Mobile, AL
Some cities you set out to visit, and some you just end up stumbling upon. I never knew I wanted to visit Mobile, Alabama. I actually had never given the city any thought at all. That was just ignorance on my behalf, because it is quite a charmer. It has everything you could want in a Southern city: leafy oaks, shaded squares, and beautiful architecture.

Gettysburg, PA
Gettysburg is a fabulous place to explore in the fall. The summer crowds have waned, temperatures have cooled, and the leaves they are a changin’. The town itself is a collection of well preserved buildings, containing several historic hotels, antique shops, and museums. Just outside of town is the battlefield, whose peacefulness today belies the horrors that occurred there during the Civil War.

Bath, England
Located two hours west of London, Bath makes for a perfect weekend destination. An easy train ride brings you right to the city center, which is a study in Georgian Architecture. As the name would indicate, the town is also home of Roman built baths, constructed around 60 AD, which still stand today. It is a wonderfully walkable city, with history around every corner, beautiful gardens, a generous amount of pubs, and wonderful historic hotels.

Ojai, CA
Oh my, Ojai. You beautiful, sleepy, artistic little town. A bit hippy, a bit healthy, and a whole lot of fun. Every bit as lovely as the neighboring Ojai Valley Inn & Spa, if you are in search of a laid back escape, look no further.

Granbury, TX
Granbury, Texas is one of those main street towns that could be a movie set. A beautiful court house square, ringed with commercial buildings and diagonal parking. While it is located less than an hour from Forth Worth, it feels worlds and years away.
