Camelback Golf Club: Ambiente- Scottsdale, AZ
Cambelback Golf Club’s Ambiete course definately has its ardent fans. Countless reviews bestow its virtues and hold it out as the best in the area. I’m not quite sure I agree with that. Actually, I am sure. I don’t.
Don’t get me wrong- it’s a solid course, kept in excellent condition. The facilities are nice- it feels like a high end country club. But the course just doesn’t do much for me. I’m not sure I would play it again, with so many other options out there.
Originally known as the Camelback Inn Golf Club, the site’s initial course, Padre, opened in 1972. In 1978 a second course was added, Indian Bend. Indian Bend was prone to flooding however, and was challenging to maintain.
In 2013, it was redesigned by Jason Straka, and renamed Ambiente. The renovation made the course more eco-friendly, improved drainage, and introduced elevation changes to the previously flat course. All good things. It still just doesn’t wow me. It is however a close in course, and convenient to several resorts.
