Calgary Architecture Gallery

Calgary is a city that seems to undergo a construction boom every few decades. Their downtown is an eclectic mix of building styles, ranging in age from the late 1800s to the present; unfortunately, some architectural eras are just more attractive than others. Calgary’s oldest buildings still shine, such as the Fairmont Palliser and the Stephen Avenue sandstones. Others are stark reminders that the 1970s and 80s were not a particularly pleasant architectural period. That said, the contrast in materials and textures is quite striking, and even unattractive buildings can be interesting.
