Built in 1883 for the owner of the Rocky Mountain News, William Byers, the Byer-Evans house is an excellent example of an early Italianate with later additions. Located in one of Denver’s oldest neighborhoods, the brick house features arched stonework over the windows, ornate chimneys, and an ornamental cast iron widow’s walk.
Donated to the Colorado Historical Society in 1981, by descendants of the second owner, William Gray Evans, the home’s contents are 90% original, and include some fascinating items. Highlights include an archway of Lincrusta-Walton in the parlor, a unique stucco fireplace, an elaborate kitchen range, and stunning Art Nouveau style wall paper in the dining room. Moody and dark like a proper Victorian era home, the Byers-Evans house is full of magnificent period details.
