Acadia National Park is moody and somewhat morose in the winter, but also devoid of the summertime masses. Still breathtakingly beautiful, the dramatic rocky coastline and misty mountain lakes offer a quiet respite for intrepid offseason travelers.
While portions of the park are closed in the winter, including the popular Cadillac Mountain, miles of hiking trails and carriage roads are accessible and crowd free. Several of the coastal attractions are also open, including Thunder Hole, although services are somewhat limited. Regardless, anyone who has experienced an overcrowded park will appreciate the option to visit during a more subdued season.
