Despite the name, there are actually 1864 islands in the Thousand Islands archipelago, some American, some Canadian. Spread over 50 miles in the Saint Lawrence River, the best way to see them all is by helicopter.
Island sizes vary, but all are required to have at least one square foot above water all year long, and support at least two living trees. Some are little more than uninhabited specs, while some support grand estates, such as Heart Island’s Boldt Castle and Dark Island’s Singer Castle. Also visable from above are several of the areas many shipwrecks, estimated to number over 200.
